Looking Ahead at the Month
...and what I'm looking forward to most post-baby!
Hello June and hello BABY MONTH! I can hardly believe that by the end of this month, we’ll be a family of FIVE! There are so many things to be thankful (and excited!) for this month. I have always loved June because it’s the start of summer break and things really start to slow down - the days are filled with sunshine and the smell of sunscreen and life feels good and free. Especially with a glass of crisp sauvignon blanc in hand (which will be me, hopefully soon!). 😎 Here are some things I’m looking forward to this month…
A New Baby!
I feel like this is an obvious one, haha, but of course the number one thing I’m looking forward to this month is meeting our third baby girl!!! I’m 39 weeks now so she could technically come any day or hour - we are on pins and needles just waiting. I’m having Braxton Hicks contractions like CRAZY and also feeling lots of “pressure” down there, so I think things are starting to progress (I’m hopeful that I’ll go into labor naturally and don’t have to be induced). I’m still waiting on a few last-minute Amazon orders to come in (like these I forgot about), but otherwise I am feeling pretty prepared for her arrival - physically. Her bassinet is ready, her sheets are washed, we are stocked up on newborn diapers and wipes, and she has plenty of clothes! I’m not going to lie, though, I am feeling a bit nervous about her arrival. I had JUST gotten to the point where parenting was feeling easier and more enjoyable for me - we are out of the diaper stage and both girls play so well together now, their personalities are so much fun, and we can talk and reason with them. I’m a bit nervous to start over with a newborn - and to be honest I am dreading the sleepless nights and hormonal roller coaster of the postpartum phase!
Maternity Leave
I do plan to take a maternity leave once baby #3 gets here, and I am SO READY for it! As a content creator, my job is producing content… so we’ve spent the past couple of months creating a backlog of content that can go live while I’m on maternity leave, whether that’s a fun fashion post or a Substack answering lots of “juicy” questions that you guys sent in. Instead of slowing down towards the end of pregnancy, I feel like I’ve been ramping up - every day feels like a race to be as productive as possible since the baby could come at any minute. Aside from work, there has also been so much happening in my personal life with the passing of my father… it has added a lot mentally and emotionally to my plate. All that to say, I am really looking forward to a break!!! I can’t WAIT to park my butt on the couch with my baby and just lay there for days on end - I’m going to soak up those newborn snuggles and not feel obligated to answer a single email or text message.
I’m also excited for maternity leave because it means I get to spend more time with my mom! She has decided to move in with us for a few weeks once the baby comes, and truly it makes me feel so supported and happy knowing that she’ll be here every day. Not only to help with the baby, but because I am 35 and still need my mama, too!
Summer Things!!!!
The girls and I have been working on our Summer Bucket List and we are so excited to kick it off in June! They are officially out of school for summer break and I purposefully didn’t sign them up for camps and activities - I think it’s such a blessing to be at home with them all summer. Some of the things on our bucket list include setting up a lemonade stand, having a movie night in our driveway (we love this projector), park dates, catching fireflies, making homemade popsicles, and having a family board game tournament. We also plan to get a lot of use out of the pool - I just love the lazy afternoons of summer when you’re fresh out of the shower and you’ve been in the sun and swimming all day - you’re tired but somehow refreshed and happy at the same time. (Side note, I do realize that all of this will be a little more difficult to carry out with a newborn, but I fully intend to bring her along for all our summer activities - I hope that she’s a chill baby!!)
Wearing Normal Clothes (& Having a Glass of Wine)
Although there are some things about postpartum that I’m not looking forward to (like night sweats and raging hormones), there are some things that I really can’t wait for. Like the first sip of a crisp sauvignon blanc in my backyard on a summer evening (Chris got me these wine glasses for Mother’s Day and I haven’t been able to use them yet!!). Or getting to wear alllll the clothes that I currently can’t fit into. This includes fitted dresses, skirts, shorts… and JEANS! I’ve seen so many cute outfits lately with jeans, I already ordered this pair that has been on my Wish List since before the Spring. And don’t even get me started on pajamas!!! Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve worn a cute pajama shorts set to bed? (Or slept on my stomach??) WAY TOO LONG! I can’t wait to style normal clothes (and share them with you all, of course!).
Well, I think that about sums it up for June! Who knows, maybe I will be writing the next newsletter from my hospital bed?! 😆 I will for sure keep you guys updated on baby’s arrival!
xoxo
